A lunchtime Mass was celebrated by Fr Chris Thomas the General Secretary of the Catholic Bishops Conference of England & Wales for the special intention of deceased members and supporters of Apostleship of the Sea (AoS) who have died in the last year.
The Mass was held at the chapel in the Catholic Bishops Conference office.
Prayers were offered for all those supporters who left legacy gifts in their Wills and for all those for whom we received in memory donations.
We also prayed for the repose of the souls of all deceased members of the AoS family – past employees, chaplains, trustees, volunteer ship visitors, parish contacts, supporters and their relatives; and for all seafarers who lost their lives in 2015.
In his homily Fr Chris also thanked and prayed for all seafarers for the fantastic and vital jobs they do bringing us up to 95% of the goods and services we consume. He described seafarers as "unsung heroes".
