On the evening of Wednesday 1st May Mass was held at Plymouth Cathedral to celebrate the work of the Apostleship of the Sea in the Plymouth diocese. The occasion also allowed the AoS to formally welcome John Pinhay, port chaplain for Falmouth and Fowey to his ministry. A coach brought fifty parishioners, and AoS supporters from the depths of Cornwall to join in this celebration. Also supporting John, was his wife Pat also a ship visitor in Falmouth and his family. We were extremely fortunate to have members of crew from 'Wave Sentinel', currently berthed in Falmouth Dry Dock for the last seven weeks join us. The Mass was concelebrated by Father Jon Bielawski, parish priest in Falmouth and Bishop Christopher. Representing the AoS was Louise Carter, who was chaplain for Falmouth and Fowey until she was appointed as a trustee of AoS in July 2010.
Bishop Christopher concluded mass by giving thanks to God for seafarers, praying for them and the work of the AoS and finally ended with a blessing for John.
