The crew of the ship Sea Pull which recently berthed at Teesport had the opportunity to celebrate Mass with Fr Peter Smith, a White Father (Missionaries of Africa) who comes originally from the Teeside area but has spent 40 plus years working in the African continent. Fr Peter was on a recent visit back to Teeside where he celebrated Mass at St Bede's Church, Marske by the Sea, and met Barry Doyle, one of our AoS ship visitors who works on the Tees. Barry invited Fr Peter to visit the 'Sea Pull'.
During the visit the Filipino Captain made a request for Mass to be said on board, and Fr Peter was delighted to be given such an opportunity. So on the evening of 14th August Fr Peter celebrated a Mass of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary for almost the entire crew. He spoke during a brief homily of his travels and the many different nationalities he has met during his life, and his sheer pleasure at being made so welcome on board. Fr Peter is now based at St Anne's Church, Jerusalem, which is run and maintained by the White Fathers. If you ever visit the church, it is likely that it will be Fr Peter who will meet and greet you.
